Love, I+W

many will see for i+w

this gets a tad long winded, but read to the end!
so this is what happened this morning...
woke up for coffee and quick run through of our email inbox, which normally is at 7am not so overwhelming.
just usually always a lovely email from my mom, then some business with east coasters that are already at work, then questions from over seas customers that are awake while we have been asleep, and finally...notifications from websites and blogs that we follow.

this morning... all of that, then hundreds of more emails from new friends of imogene+willie from all over the world.
what?
we were GOOPED.
those of you that follow us know that my posts are quite a bit more girly and emotional than those posted by my hilarious husband matt and our brilliant storekeeper ian.
so, i will tell you that i am tearful when we send this big ole heartfelt THANK YOU to precious gwyneth paltrow and her amazing, lovely team at GOOP.
more about our new found friendship with that team later....

but back to this morning...
we are getting emails by the droves... questions about product available to purchase.
if you are just today learning about imogene+willie, you will see that we don't do e-commerce... yet.
we do, however, for those that can't get to nashville - visit on the phone all day long with customers all around the country and world.
personal shopping experience!

so, our friend and photographer extraordinare thomas petillo grabbed his gear this morning and met us at the store for a very impromptu photo shoot with sweet jessie baylin - so we can visually show you some great pieces that are available at the gas station right now.

what we want to show you today....
amanda urrego is a jewelry designer that in a year from now, we all will wish we had one of her first pieces.
more important than her art, though... she is one of the dearest souls we have ever known.
amanda created MANY WILL SEE in 2008, primarily making pieces for friends in the music industry.
her pieces resonate her roots.... shiny and glamorous because born and bred and still part time in los angeles. and then old and rustic and worn in because living in and loving nashville.
just to mention a few that own her masterpieces... taylor swift, angie harmon, julianne hough, and martina mcbride. and holly williams, who has played such an integral part in the evolution of MANY WILL SEE.
holly got the artistic gene passed down from her father hank, jr. she is the gem of this new city we call home. holly also created and owns the most fabulous shop, h. audrey. yet another reason for you to just get on down to nashville!

i am rambling. back to amanda..
we are so very honored that amanda has created a special capsule for us: MANY WILL SEE FOR I+W.
can't even believe it.

enjoy the virtual experience of viewing amanda's new collection in the slide show.
all clothing in the images are available at imogene+willie as of today.

can i say one more thing?
jessie baylin. this girl woke up early this morning with just a little notice to help us out.
didn't fix her hair or put on makeup... just came to play dress up and have a picture session.
helping out. this is what nashville is about, by the way.

based in NEW YORK/LA/NASHVILLE, jessie is the epitome of classic. think dusty springfield with stevie nicks..... then dream of her new album that we all cannot even wait for.... fall-ish 2010.
jessie is another sweet soul that we are so happy to call friend. she is so very talented in her own right.... and also sweet wife to nathan followill, drummer of KINGS OF LEON.

now.
go back to the top of this long post, check out the images, then call us or email us with product inquiry.
just describe it to us and we will get it packaged up for you and on the way to your doorstep.

Beauty in Black & White

There is a power in simplicity. In a social issue, a radical new idea, a photograph, a design; a black & white mentality exudes a unique power, unencumbered by unnecessary detail, or distracting "color." The raw image, the heart, instinctual free-thought. We have attempted to espouse this focused, simple energy by making a product that breaks barriers in a subtle, slow, and intentional way. Rooting our designs and thoughts in history, family, friends, and life, avoiding compositional aberration, or baseless pretension. Imogene + Willie wants to make a jean for your life. Thank you to everyone who has embraced our store and the product we make. As we approach Spring/Summer 2010, we look forward to beginning year two of Imogene + Willie. We wouldn't want to do it with anyone else. Love, Ian @ I+W

Back in Charge: Levi's XX with LVC

We've all been waiting for it, for Levi's to wake up and say "Gosh darn it! We are were first and we are the best. Let's set the standard once more! We don't have to leave it up to the Japanese (and Imogene + Willie, of course) to make the sickest jeans." Well, thankfully someone is listening because Levi's is REALLY doing it right with XX. Each Levi's Vintage Clothing piece is an archival reproduction straight from the Levi's vault. With LVC, Levi's recreates their own masterpieces right down to the original tag! Included in the line is the prodigal son of denim, the famous 1947 Levi's 501, done in beautiful shrink-to-fit Cone denim fabric. Perhaps the best part of all is, we are lucky enough to be one of only a handful of stores to carry this fine merchandise. Call or email with questions and price inquiries. The Search is Over...

We know how hard it is to find the right bag. It's got to be big enough to fit the necessities (and more) but not so huge that you're tempted to overfill it to the chagrin of your poor back. Well, we are pleased to announce that the search is over for the perfect satchel...Introducing our very own mail bag! A collaborative creation by Emil Erwin and Imogene + Willie... and made right here in Nashville, Tennessee...
It features two main compartments, pen and phone pockets, adjustable leather shoulder strap, solid brass hardware, and brass rivets throughout for reinforcement. The result is exactly what you are looking for: exclusivity, quality, durability, classic style, and even domestic origin. Needless to say, everyone here wants one!

We have a a very limited selection of these bags currently, but will be ramping up production soon. Be the first to nab one up at this introductory price! Call or email with inquiries, (615) 292-5005 or ian@imogeneandwillie.com. -ian

Dimensions: 19"x 13.5"x 6". Price $650.

laugh

my dad's best friend told me when i was little that laughter heals. and keeps us healthy.
and then, God gave me matt, who keeps my face hurting from laughter every.day.

we asked thomas petillo, our dear soul-mate friend and imogene+willie team member and photographer, to capture a little party that we had at the store last week. we were celebrating our friendship with another store in town... h. audrey.
and then primarily honoring our friend and mentor and laughing partner, susie crippen. susie is the co-founder and was the creative director of J BRAND jeans, prior to the company being sold last week. more importantly, susie is that one that brings sheer joy and bellowing laughter (and at the same time, wisdom) into a room when she enters.

thank you, thomas, for capturing another day in life of some good eye smiling, mouth opened laughter at the gas station.
love,
c

happy birthday

yow. crying my eyes out... tears of happy, as i type this.
one year ago, imogene+willie was born.
actually, one year ago a couple of weeks ago... but wanted to wait and commemorate it until about now because, one year ago as of january 26th, until february 26th.... 250 people across america essentially jump started imogene+willie by ordering a pair of jeans from us.
i have to say that typically, i struggle to remember much about the day from 1 year before anything.
but i remember this time so crystal clearly.
i would love to share with you all pictures from a year ago, but they are an unreal series of a 100 year old tree cracked in two and laying on our house, and a bunch of family in pajamas at our house, with no shower for days.
just envision...
jan 26th.
3am: LAUNCH. pressed "publish post" on our first blog entry. sent out the link to about 25 friends and family.
7am: it's snowing. no. it's icing. like, 6 inches? a real state of emergency.
power outages almost literally everywhere in our hometown, BUT our house. family from both sides start to gather at our place. this is going to be fun! slumber party for a night.... which turned into 7 nights?!
9 kids all under 10, running around the house with cabin fever for days, computers plugged in all over the house... adults working from camp eddmenson. full cafeteria set up in our kitchen for breakfast, lunch and dinner feeds.
and meanwhile.... jean orders coming in from all over the country. and from across the big waters.
we just couldn't even believe it.
imogene+willie, which was planned meticulously for success, but with odds still so against it at such a tough time in our world.... was really going to happen.
happy 1 year birthday only because of all of those that believed in it.
if any of you 250 are reading this.... thank you is not nearly enough.
love,c

It's All In The Details...

Imogene + Willie can be seen featured in the January issue of Details magazine. In true Details fashion, the article is a well-edited guide to Nashville for the chic man. We approve of their choices, which include a nod to our friends at Billy Reid, as well as Hutton Hotel and Patterson House to name a few.

P.S. Please ignore the crap on the sofa...as I said, it's all in the details.

JAPAMERICAN

As most of you know, we here at imogene+willie are pretty into American work wear. Hell, we are into everything Americana. I love knowing that this is our heritage and that it still drives a style of clothing that is so popular today. Yet I find it almost impossible to buy anything American in America. The Japanese have made BIG BUSINESS out of buying American. They, much like myself, labor over finding vintage pieces that came from the middle working-class that made our country what it is today. I think the most important thing to take away from this blog post is: until we make America "Big Business" again, we might not have any business at all. Make a change, seek out things made here in America, and remember: nothing that's worth doing is easy! Check out "The American List" on A Continuous Lean. It's a great place to start.

sitting on the porch: a place and a state of mind

i love tennessee, but i really miss our front porch in kentucky.
below is a note in my inbox that i woke up to a couple of mornings ago.
all of our lives and endeavors start to spin and can get so... disconnected.
thank you, customer sitting on the porch, for bringing me, personally, back to SIMPLY why (and where: on the front porch) we started our little project called imogene+willie.

...."i was just having a sit on my porch and i found myself admiring the pair of pants i was wearing,
made by imogene + willie here in nashville, it's my home town. so, i feel compelled to let of all of you down there know, and i'm sure my voice bleeds into many, that i'm happy you all have seen fit to make something of it here.
nice to have you."
-b.stone

this is day one of back to blogging.
matt and i, as well as ian, our store keeper, are each going to put the ink to the paper monday, wednesday and friday... or saturday in this first case.

love,
